Kirill Rodin was born in 1963. He studied at the Gnessin Special Music School in Moscow and the Moscow Conservatory with Natalia Shakhovskaya. He won the International Jeunesses Musicales Competition in Belgrade in 1984 and was Gold medal winner at the VIIIth Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow in 1986.
He is much in demand as a soloist, and from 1986 is on the roster of artists of the Moscow Philharmonic Society. From 1990 he has been teaching cello at his Alma Mater and currently is also guest professor at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. Rodin gives frequent master classes throughout the world, in Britain, Germany, France, Japan, Spain, Croatia, and China. He is demand as a jury member of international cello competitions, amongst them the Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow, the Tchaikovsky Youth Competition in China and Japan, and the Classical Heritage competition in Moscow.
Kirill Rodin has an impressive discography to his name, with recordings of works by Bach, Beethoven, Haydn, Brahms, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich, Myaskovsky, Piazzolla and Khrennikov. He is a member of the Brahms Trio with the pianist Natalia Rubinstein and violinist Nikolai Sachenko.
